Just a friendly reminder to the members, family and friends of the Perry Family Cemetery Association that
our annual Decoration Day will be held on Sunday, September 11, 2005 beginning at 11:00 a.m. This tradition, established by
our forefathers over 100 years ago, is a wonderful opportunity to share fellowship with our family and to learn more about
our family's history from one another. But most of all, it is a time to visit and remember our loved ones who rest in this
special place.
For the last two years, we have set up a special table for pictures in remembrance of our loved ones buried
at the cemetery. For those of you that have brought their family pictures to share, we thank you. Many of us have learned
more of our family history through these special pictures. We encourage each you to bring more this year. What a wonderful
way for us to remember those we loved so dearly and to share them with our other family members. It is our goal to share the
lives of these special people with the younger generation in the hope that they will continue our Decoration Day tradition.
With that in mind, I challenge each of you this year to seek out our elders that attend Decoration Day religiously
each year. Hug their necks and ask them questions. I’m sure each of our elders has many wonderful stories to tell of
Decoration Day’s from the past. The family history and the stories that our elders know are worth hearing. It’s
up to all of us to keep our history alive for the generations to come.
As always, we’d like to see the Association's 2005 Decoration Day as having one of the biggest turnouts.
So, pick up the phone and invite four or five family members who haven't been to Decoration Day in a while and ask them to
meet us on Sunday, September 11, 2005 for this great family tradition or simply pass a copy of this announcement on to them.
The Association Board Members will meet at 11:00 a.m., followed by the Association's regular business meeting
of the membership and a potluck picnic luncheon to follow.
Just a reminder that membership dues are $20.00 per family. This is a small fee that families should be glad
to pay to help maintain the costs of taking care of the cemetery property. If you are unable to attend Decoration Day this
year, you can mail your 2005 membership dues directly to Mrs. Carol Glover, Treasurer at 6975 Highway 76, Somerville, TN 38068.
Your continued support of Perry Cemetery is sincerely appreciated.
If you should need directions to the Perry Cemetery or need further information regarding Decoration Day,
please feel free to contact Ms. Johnnie Diane Perry-Goodwin, (Hospitality/Secretary) at (901) 324-9478 or Mrs. Florence Devore
(Coordinator) at (309) 691-6048. Thank all of you for being a special part of the Perry Family Cemetery Association and we
look forward to seeing each you on Decoration Day.

PERRY FAMILY CEMETERY ASSOCIATION ANNUAL MEETING
SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 11, 2005
Chairman Jerry Wayne Glover welcomed and thanked everyone for attending this year’s event and called the annual
meeting of the Perry Family Cemetery Association to Order.
Johnnie Perry-Goodwin read the minutes from September 12, 2004. Florence Devore made a motion that the minutes
be accepted as read and Carol Glover seconded the motion. Motion carried with no opposition.
Carol Glover gave the Treasurer’s Report. The current balance is $4,779.65. Carol reported that $1,205.00
in dues was collected on September 11, 2005 with $370.00 in memorials being collected. Expenses for the year were $3,858.53,
which included the new wrought iron gates and the new pavilion. Florence Devore reminded all members present about the
cost of the Cemetery’s upkeep and made a motion that the treasurer’s report be accepted. Johnnie Perry-Goodwin
seconded the motion and the motion carried with no opposition.
Jerry Wayne asked the members to approve a raise to the lawn cutters due to the increase of gas. Current cutting
costs were $70.00 per cutting. Jerry suggested raising the amount to $80.00 per cut for the 2005 year and raising the
amount again to $90.00 per cut for 2006 cutting season. Floyd Glover made a motion to approve the new amounts and Larry
Davis seconded the motion. Motion carried with no opposition.
It was decided by the board that the Perry Cemetery sign would be taken down for sandblasting and painting to go with
the new iron fence. The board also decided to hold off on putting concrete under the new pavilion for now. The
board approved a memorial marker to be placed in the cemetery for Hazel Perry Woods and John Wesley Woods, by the Perry Family.
The Perry family understands that their dues should be paid each year for the upkeep of the memorial marker and the Cemetery.
The Perry family understands that the memorial marker cannot interfere with any existing markers placed in the cemetery now.
Also, discussed was asking for a dozen people to volunteer to clean the back fence. However, this issue was not brought
up during the annual meeting.
Jerry Wayne asked if there was any new business and none was brought up.
Florence Devore commended the board members for all their hard work and with nothing further to discuss the annual meeting
was dismissed by Jerry Wayne Glover. Josephine Blizzard said grace and a wonderful day of fellowship and food was enjoyed
by all.

Item 1. That the governing body, composed of elected officers, will write the bylaws of said organization.
Item 2. That no one can or will be buried in Perry Cemetery without permission from the Chairman and the Treasurer.
Item 3. That a minimum fee of $20.00 per family be established as a membership fee of the association, to be used
for the upkeep of Perry Cemetery. Said fee to be paid January 1st of each year, with a third day grace period.
Persons over the age of 21 are responsible for their own membership. Exceptions can be made by determination of the
majority of the board.
Item 4. For non-paying members of the association who want to be buried in Perry Cemetery, approval must be given
by three (3) board members, one being the chairman, and in fairness to members of the association who have been paying dues
over a period of years, a fee of $300 shall be collected prior to the burial. This fee will be used for maintenance
of this grave and cemetery.
Item 5. That the books will be present for examination by association members on Decoration Day at Perry Cemetery.
Anyone wishing to see the books at other times should contact the Treasurer for a convenient time. The books will be
audited once a year by three (3) board members appointed by the chairman.
Item 6. That there will be no mounding of graves to a height that would interfere with maintenance of the grounds.
Item. 7 That there will be no fences, bricks or concrete used to form grave lots. Marked concrete corner stones
can be used. The chairman of the board must be contacted prior to laying cornerstones.
Item 8. That whoever opens and closes graves will be responsible for moving dirt to a specified area in the cemetery,
as directed by the chairman.
Item 9. That there will be no stacking of graves in Perry Cemetery.
Item 10. That all graves will be no less than four and one-half feet deep.
Item 11. That all graves must be laid out in an orderly fashion. Lots will be no more than 5’ x 11”
which will allow plenty of room for a headstone.
Item 12. That the Historian shall keep a record book of people buried in Perry Cemetery.
Item 13. That
once a year, in early spring, the chairman of the association will call a meeting of the members of Perry Cemetery Association
for the purpose of cleaning up leaves and other trash before turning the cemetery over to a person who will provide ground
maintenance during the summer.
Item. 14. That the second Sunday of September be recognized as Decoration Day, following a tradition established
by our forefathers over 150 years ago. The association board will meet at 11:00 a.m. on this day to be followed by a
regular business meeting of the membership of the association and a picnic lunch at the cemetery.
Item 15. That anyone caught littering or vandalizing Perry Cemetery will be subject to arrest.
Item 16. That no one other than the next of kin of the deceased remove flower stands from graves without the consent
of two or more Board Members.
Item 17. That flowers will be kept at a minimum during grass growing season so as not to interfere with mowing.
