2006 PERRY reunion:
Ya'll missed a great time if ya
couldn't come this past weekend.
We had a blast!
Thank you again for going way above and beyond Johnnie and Donna!
Everyone absent was so missed.
Be there next year!
What comes to mind when you think of Southern food?
Fried chicken, grits, gumbo, pecan pie, catfish and hush puppies, fried green tomatoes, turnip greens, and chitterlings all lay claim to being below-the-Mason-Dixon delicacies. And what do Southerners do when their mouths are waterin'
for a slice of the South? Throw a party!
Better yet, a Perry family reunion!

EVERYONE PLEASE TAKE THE TIME TO SEND A LITTLE 2006 THANK YOU NOTE OR CARD TO :

2008 Perry Family Reunion will be held at
Meeman Shelby Forest State Park
, June 6th, 7th and 8th 2008.
  "Dear Family –

I hope that everyone has made it back home safely by now.  Thank you all for a MOST EXCELLENT weekend.  I think we all had a wonderful time together.  The only bad thing about it is that it ended all too soon.  I talked to Donna Elaine this morning and she has checked the park books and has booked Piersol Group Camp for June 6, 7, & 8th, 2008 for next year’s family reunion.  If anyone wants to come in a few days early before the reunion, please let Donna Elaine know ASAP so that she can go ahead and book your cabin for you.  Also, Donna Elaine said that many of you left items at the cabins this year.  She was able to determine who owned some of the items, however, there was a bag left in cabin #5 which included boys swimming trunks, boxer shorts and two pair of socks.  If you were in cabin #5 or these items sound like yours, please let Donna know ASAP.

I’d like for all of you to write a letter of thanks to the following individuals:

Steve Smith (park ranger)

c/o Meeman Shelby State Park

910 Riddick Road

Millington, TN  38053

Samantha Morouney (park animals)

c/o Meeman Shelby State Park

910 Riddick Road

Millington, TN  38053

The maintenance men are Tom Mattingling and Hunter Haley

Steve Smith for the past 3 years has been kind enough to let us have the lodge for a minimal fee and trust me, we should not mind cleaning up Piersol Group Camp at all for his kind generosity.  The normal cost for Piersol Group Lodge is $210 per day.

Samantha Morouney has done her park critter presentation for the past two years for our family.  She has done this on her own time and for free.

Tom Mattingling and Hunter Haley have fixed up Piersol Group Camp, the cabins and have gotten them in presentable order for us each year.

They deserve many thanks.  If you can write them a few lines of thanks – send them a card and let them know how much they are appreciated.

Friday night was filled with old time movies, popcorn, snow cones and the family enjoying one another.

Saturday night we remembered and honored the passing of our Patriarch John “Wesley” Perry, Jr. and presented to the family Ronnie C. Perry as the family’s new Patriarch.

This year’s Beacon of Light Award winners are:  Donna and Chuck Adcock;  Rhonda and Troy Sproles;  Special Beacon of Light Award Presentation to Stephen Charles Perry.

Denise Perry-Clement was named 2007 Perry-Gras Queen – a special trophy was awarded to her and a video presentation in her honor was shown to the family.

Uncle Ronnie “threw” one heck of a Perry-Gras Party for the family.

Sunday morning Jerry Montgomery could not have ended our time together any better - he gave a wonderful Father’s Day sermon, which left many of us in tears and all hugging one another in love and appreciation.

We collected a love fund of $313.25 for the Perry Cemetery – thank you all from the bottom of my heart on this one.  I am sending the money to Carol Glover in the morning.

I can’t thank those that attended this year’s family reunion enough (54 total).  It was another perfect year.  I have attached per request of the family a copy of our family’s mailing list.  Let me know if there are any changes that need to be made or if anything needs to be added.  Also, there are a lot of family members not listed on the attached list.  If you have that information, please let me know.  I would also like to get everyone’s birthdays and anniversaries if I could.  I am sending a copy of the Cemetery Bylaws and the Board Members List in case any of you are interested in joining the Perry Cemetery.  I will send the Decoration Day/Dues notice out in August.  Decoration Day is ALWAYS the second Sunday in September – please come if you can.  If you cannot open any of the attachments, please let me know and I will send them to you another way.  Many hugs to you all.  Your cousin, Johnnie d."

PERRY:  The family name of Perry is exceedingly ancient. It is found in England as far back as 1156; and yet another family of the name was seated in Devonshire, England, in 1307. The genealogists do not agree as to the origin of the name, one authority making it from the French, Peret. Yet another claims that one branch of the family derived its name from Periers, near Evreux, in Normandy; while another makes it come from Periers, in Brittany. Whatever the origin may have been, it is certain that as far as Great Britain is concerned it is derived from the old name, Periers, which in turn was derived from the French. It is also gaelic for 'pear tree'.

Psalms 100:
Make a joyful noise unto the LORD, all ye lands. Serve the LORD with gladness: come before his presence with singing. Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and bless his name. For the LORD is good; his mercy is everlasting; and his truth endureth to all generations.

Trace Allen Sproles arrived at 1050 Am on July 31, 2005
also:
Chase Anthony Perry son of Katie Perry , Grand son of Ace & Mary, was born May 8, 2005 in Louisiana too.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
from Denise: Our June 2006 reunion completed- a huge success!
Beautiful weather...no injuries or illness-
Johnnie and Donna work so hard to put this special event together.
JOHN WESLEY PERRY SR. has great-great grandchildren now;
our individual families are large enough for representation by everyone of his children by at least any one person for even just a few mere hours.
Three of his children had not one person in attendance as a humble representative gesture in their parent's or GRANDPARENT'S honor.
Let us all try harder to get the younger generation more involved;
let us not make the same mistakes as our parents and make a honest effort to show up or send a representative for one short fun filled weekend a year to keep our PERRY heritage alive and thriving.
This year at the reunion we :
SHARED OUR AUNT BETTY'S BIRTHDAY, SENTIMENTAL "BEACON OF LIGHT" FAMILY AWARDS, CATERED CORKY'S BBQ (yummy!),
FAMILY COOK BOOK GIVEN OUT, GREAT TRIP TO THE FANTASTIC MEMPHIS ZOO, GREAT WILD KINGDOM ACTIVITIES, AWESOME DVD MADE FOR EVERYONE BY JDPG-
and much more!
6-9-06 "POST REUNION" message from JDPG:
Dear Cousins – As voted on by the majority of the family this year, next year’s Perry Family Reunion will be held at Meeman Shelby Forest, June 15th, 16th and 17th.  We will be sending out an e-mail in January 2007 asking for a head count.  However, if you know for sure that you will be attending next year go ahead and let me know now.
Last year when we came together, we celebrated our surviving Aunts and Uncles.
Galatians 5:22 reads “But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and faith.”  Galatians 5:25 says “That if we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.”
What Beacons of Light our loved ones have been for all of us.  These Beacons of Light touched our lives in so many different ways.  So, we establish in their memory “The Beacon of Light Award”.  Given to those cousins that have followed in our loved ones foot steps.  Sharing the spirit of love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness and faith.  This award will be given to not more than 10 cousins or less than 1 cousin in a given year.  Cousins will be selected at random.  "2006 Beacons of Light” awards were given to family members Joyce & Roger Fred, Linda & Jerry Montgomery, Denise & Tim Clement, Joseph Thomas Perry, Donna & Dwayne Miller .
Also, Donna Elaine collected $70.00 for the Perry Reunion Fund and I will have to double check on the figure, but we collected $125 for the Perry Cemetery Association (I still haven’t gone through all of our Reunion leftovers and that information is in there too).
For those of you that attended this year, please be sure to send the park manager a card or a letter letting him know how much we appreciate him and his staff for letting us come out to the park for our weekend retreat.  His address is as follows:
Steve Smith, Park Manager
c/o Meeman Shelby Forest State Park
910 Riddick Road  Millington, TN  38053
Donna and I thank all of you again from the bottom of our hearts for your attendance this year.  All I can say is that it was a blast!  Uncle Ronnie said this year’s reunion was better than last year’s.  So, that says it all.  Much love and many hugs to all.  Johnnie Diane Perry Goodwin
Message from Johnnie:
"Donna Elaine has booked Shelby Forrest for the weekend of June 2, 3, 4, 2006.  All in all we thought that our first annual Reunion was a success.  There were few complaints, but just remember that no event is ever perfect.  The main thing is that we got together and had a wonderful time with our loved ones.
We plan on doing things a little different next summer, but we need and want your input as to what kind of events or programs you'd like to see or have take place next year.  This is important in helping Donna and I plan so, please take the time to let us know.  We appreciate your input -- it makes our job a lot easier.
You can send your ideas to me.  Donna and I will work on putting the 2006 program together for the family.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Johnnie and Donna collected $407.02 for the Perry Cemetery during our July 8-10th FIRST EVER reunion!
Start planning for the Second Annual PERRY Family Reunion in 2006.
Johnnie and Donna have booked the group camp for June 2,3,4 2006.
