Multiple sclerosis (MS) afflicts the central nervous system, causing unpredictable and varying symptoms that differ from person to person. About 1 in 700 people in the United States is affected by this disease. Multiple sclerosis usually strikes between the ages of 20 and 50, and affects two to three times more women than men. Although there is currently no cure for MS, there are treatments that can slow the progression of the disease and enhance the quality of life for people who have this condition.

My decade old battle against my multiple sclerosis

I was diagnosed with very mild RRMS Jan. 1995 after one MRI to see why there was burning sensations in my neck. The Avonex injections at $1000 a month for 4 years I was on damaged my heart and caused my 1996 mild MS to rapidly escalate to the 2001 progressive MS I live with today. I am totally disabled now- I take NO medication specifically for multiple sclerosis now. In 2006 I was hospitalized for 3 weeks after going completely NUMB from the waist down in a multiple sclerosis flare up. I am legally blind, have foot-drop and am unable to walk unassisted more than 3 car lenghts unassisted. I fall easily and have broken all my toes and most ribs in the last 5 years. I choke easily and have to watch what I eat and drink. I get confused in my thought and speech patterns often. In other words, 'it does not compute...' I know more people with M.S. than ANY other disease.

There have been over 3 dozen deaths of babies and persons under age 22 since 1980 in my tiny community with a population of under 3,000. I moved here June 1982.

All deaths have been tragic...but none to me more than that of Evan Bailey:  This Citizen of Laurel Lake Commercial Township remembers our murdered child.

November 17,1980 little 9 year old Evan Bailey (black) was abducted from Vineland, NJ (currently the Forman Mills Parking lot). His abductor was a 20 year old drifter whom had already murdered 3 minors within the past year.

Malcolm Joseph Robbins Jr. (white) from Rockland, Maine was one of 11 children-he himself had been brutally abused, neglected and tormented since the day he was born. Robbins had been sexually molested by 2 former husbands of his mother.

By age 11 Robbins had already been sent to reform school for sexually molesting younger boys. By age 16,Robbins traveled across country with his 40 year old gay lover.

Robbins had killed a 7 year old male Steven Little on Christmas Day 1979 in Texas, 17 year old male Brian Lepko 1-29-80 in West Virginia, a 6 year old male Christopher Finney 6-15-80 in California  before taking 9 year old Evan Bailey.

Evan was brought to Laurel Lake Commercial Twp. Cumberland Co. N.J. to a empty mobile home on Battle Lane where he was repeatedly VICIOUSLY raped. Evan tried to run but was finally caught & grabbed by Robbins whom slit Evan’s throat. Then Robbins proceeded to beat Evan and stab him numerous times.

Amazingly, Evan was still barely alive when Robbins took his tiny body and dumped him on Millville side of Laurel Lake where Evan breathed his last breath. (A very dear friend whom lived here during that time sent me this info recently:   " He ( Robbins) was renting the double-wide on Battle Lane & Poplar with his bi-sexual lover. A juvenile last named Clifford also lived there with the two--with his mothers permission!")
Robbins was arrested and charged by the Millville Police Dept.-- Retired MPD Det. Garton was in charge of the investigation. Law enforcement officers from 6 states came here to question Robbins on their unsolved murders. The 1st case Robbins confessed to was to a Dallas, Texas Detective whom came here to question Robbins. The Ca. murder of a 6 year old boy named Christopher Finney on 6-15-80 was the 1st murder Robbins confessed here in Cumberland County, NJ to. Robbins finally pled guilty to murdering Evan 4-27-81. He was sentenced 8-7-81 at the age of 21 by the Cumberland Co. Superior Courts Judge Steven Kleiner. He was given a mere NJ sentence of life with parole opportunity after 30 years.

Malcolm Joseph Robbins Jr. has been sitting on the California death row since his sentence there on 5-13-83. Thank you California for giving Robbins a proper sentence! I will always remember the violent death of little Evan Bailey whom fought valiantly for his life against all odds here in Laurel Lake.

Evan Bailey will forever be my community little
"guardian angel".

In memory of this angel child:

"I shall take this child and place him among the stars,
he shall twinkle at twilight, and blow kisses to Mars,
he will ride the Milky Way, his laughter will melt Saturn's rings,
and there will be beautiful colors, dancing bears, funny things.
He will be read to by the angels who wear funny hats,
and he'll get to see the man in the moon,
he'll jump rope with Peter Pan, make sand castles on a beach head dune.
He'll surf with wild horses as they cut across the great divide,
and he'll eat bowls of ice cream, and he'll seek more than hide.
and you will sit quietly and look at the stars,
and know he's there playing, blowing kisses to Mars,
he'll sleep on soft pillows, and get up at midnight,
he'll do what he pleases, and laugh all the time,
and you will sing God's praises, he'll hum to the tune,
and wait for your arms to build castles on dune.
He'll find the lost city, he'll be a pirate's first mate,
and all the while he'll be at Heaven's gate."

Since before 1776, we have been a nation of volunteers.
In times both good and bad, many unselfish souls have stepped up and volunteered to do what must be done.

  • Remember:
  • 85 to 90% of sexual assaults on children are committed by people the child already knows and trusts - a relative (almost always male), family friend, baby sitter....... yet in the news and in many programs supposedly designed to help prevent sexual abuse, the emphasis is overwhelmingly upon avoiding, escaping from, and being wary of and around "strangers" - people whom the child DOESN'T know, and whom are responsible for a maximum of 15% of all child molestation - probably considerably less, since many cases where a child is harmed by a close relative (father, uncle, cousin) are never reported, but instead "dealt with" (or not, as the case may be) within the framework of the family itself, to avoid shame and other reality-distorting emotions which simply don't apply to "strangers". This sad and often tragic situation continues to perpetuate itself, via catchy slogans like "Stranger Danger"  and misguided use of community resources to make children ultra-cautious about the one category of people responsible for the **least** amount of harm, while virtually ignoring the vast majority of dangerous people and situations which the child may encounter.  The reasons for this sorry state of affairs are pretty obvious: 1) "Stranger" molestations are uncommon, unexpected, often random and unpredictable, and usually very public and dramatic in nature: they cause a lot of fear and uncertainty in the general population, who do not usually use cold-blooded statistical analysis when deciding who or what to be afraid of, or how to prevent or minimize harm in general.  2) Molestation and indeed, all manner of harm by people close to the victim and trusted, is a much more common occurrence than people are often willing to admit - and being common and often predictable (as in "Always thought uncle Jim was a bit *too* friendly with little Jennie...."), they don't make the news or cause alarm as often as the far less common, more "sensational" cases where "strangers" are involved., and 3) As mentioned above, most people are ashamed to admit that someone they know and trusted, took advantage of that trust to cause harm such as child molestation or "domestic" violence.  Also, in many cases, especially where the father is the perpetrator, the victim often continues to feel affection for them and doesn't tell anyone that the abuse is happening - and even when they do, it is often a case of the child's word against their parent or relative, and for various reasons (fear, dependency, misplaced affection...) the adult is often the one who is believed.  That said, lawmakers and those entrusted with wise use of community resources, should put emotions and misconceptions aside and take a good hard look at the facts and figures - and act accordingly.  Yes, they are "representatives" of their constituents, but they have also been entrusted with great responsibility, which they should exercise in accordance with reality, instead of personal or societal perception or prejudice.
As part of the federal crime bill, states may allow law enforcement agencies to release relevant registration information to the public, when necessary for the public's protection. The name of an offender's victim may not be released. Louisiana, New Jersey, Oregon, and Washington already have full-scale community notification programs for sex offenders judged to pose a serious public threat.
Louisiana has a three-step notification process, with responsibility placed on the offender: 1) the offender places a two-day notification in the local newspaper, which must include the name, offense committed, and address; 2) the offender provides this same information to the local school superintendent; and 3) the offender sends postcards of notification (with the same information used in steps one and two) to all neighbors within a three-block radius, or one square mile if in a rural area.
In New Jersey, the county prosecutors where the offender was convicted and where the offender plans to reside, together with appropriate law enforcement, assess an offender's risk of reoffense.
(This folks is a major joke- the drunk that raped my daughter and his own child...2 little gitls from ages 6-10 years....was given a paltry tier 1 classification- the lowest! He has lived at a huge bus stop in Millville,NJ since 2003- I cannot warn the people there or I will go to jail for violating HIS rights) The county prosecutor where the offender will reside consults with local law enforcement to determine the means of providing community notification for high risk sex offenders. Organizations in the community including schools, churches, and youth organizations are notified of moderate risk offenders. Please watch the movie "A time to kill'; I support the killing of any person over the age of 17 that rapes or has any forced sex with any child whom is under the age of 12.

"History of Marijuana as Medicine covers from 2737 B.C. to Present: Over 4,700 years! Deaths from Marijuana v. 17 FDA-Approved Drugs (January 1, 1997 to June 30, 2005)
    Total U.S. Deaths Reported from  1/1/97 - 6/30/05:
Doctor prescribed medications causing death: 11,695
Marijuana: as primary cause of death: possibly 2 "

Legalize doctor prescribed medical marijuana now for those dying, in great physical pain, legally blind and with various long term autoimmune diseases.
Would I as a law abiding middle aged female take doctor prescribed medicinal marijuana for any future problems I will have due to my multiple sclerosis?
The same disease the federal government declared me perminately disabled with in 2001 in just a few weeks after applying?
Would I legally use the same illegal marijuana plant that's been used by native peoples around the world for thousands of years, instead of blindly taking rapidly rushed through legal FDA approved drugs that are maiming and killing innocent people?
    In a New York minute!
Every one that knows me knows the AVONEX weekly injections at $1,000 a month for 4 years as the prescribed MS treatment damaged my heart causing many future MS prescribed medications unavailable to me. My current drugs for M.S.? NADA-none-zip-zero...everyone that really cares about me knows I was at deaths door in April 2006 due to legally doctor prescribed medication drug interactions. The great rehab facility after being discharged from SJHS took me off every single med. used for my multiple sclerosis. I get pains in my feet and legs so bad from muscle spasm I literally go to bed and cry as there is nothing to help me. I'm amazed at the adults my age in this area addicted to legally prescribed drugs for every ache and pain- their doctors ought to be shot for creating these addicts- people fall asleep that are addicted to those type prescriptions and never wake up.
"Whether or not the prevailing medical community accepts marijuana as having "accepted medical use" is of little or no consequence as it does, in fact, work for some people who suffer from a plethora of medical afflictions. When I think of some of the best times I have ever had in my life, I recognize that none of them were for my own good. Hauling sick people from their beds or locking people away for long periods of time, or anytime, for smoking, eating or possessing small amounts of cannabis in the privacy of one's own home, in the interest of public safety, is government at its worst.
We have learned nothing from the 18th Amendment or the prohibition of alcohol in the '20s and '30s. Alcohol, a far worse substance in regard to its destructive effects on society, brought nothing but corruption to law enforcement and the legal system in general.

    So me...

    Scorpio-Sagittarius Cusp – November 22

    Characteristics: Sagittarius Cusp

    01. Scorpio/Sagittarius cusps seek the truth and the meaning of life, and they love to explore through knowledge. They are investigative and probing, often strongly intuitive and penetrating.

    02. Scorpio/Sagittarius cusps are very determined, and once they’ve made up their minds, they are unlikely to change them.

    03. Expressing the fixed quality of Scorpio, they tend to be stubborn, refusing to give up when others have long since become bored and abandoned a project, and they get things done when no one else thought it possible.

    04. Scorpio/Sagittarius people are likely to remain true to their opinions and judgments once they have settled on them, they are not necessarily fixed or opinionated. They have no set plan or bias but seek to learn new ideas as they come. In this way, the mutable quality of Sagittarius is exemplified. They desire the freedom to do what they want when they want, and they tend to be impulsive and independent.

    05. Scorpio/Sagittarius people tend to be concerned with deeper and focused learning. They are versatile and progressive, but at times they can be impatient and pushy if something isn’t getting done the way they want.

    06. Those who wish to change a Scorpio/Sagittarius mind often have trouble because they can never be sure what their motivation is; they are too complex and sometimes too secretive to be understood easily.

    07. Scorpio/Sagittarians are interested in thought and outreach. They are intensely powerful, good-humored and generous.

    08. They are eager and inspirational; they are about action and getting things started, but they can also seem irresponsible or tactless if they jump in too quickly.

    09. They want to experience life, rather than read about it, and they are outgoing and friendly.

    10. Scorpio/Sagittarians are motivated and loyal, but they are often misunderstood, and others may see them as dictatorial or sarcastic.

    11. They are broad-minded and enthusiastic, but they may sometimes seem to have foot-in-mouth disease, as they may talk too much or speak before thinking.

    12. Scorpio/Sagittarians are both mystical and scientific, a combination that makes them very aware of what is happening around them; they are a sign of great depth. Many enjoy travel and spiritual study and have daring and adventurous spirits.

    13. Their suspicion and jealousy can pull them down, but their passion and awareness can help them rise above this.

    14. Many are natural comedians, sometimes exaggerating their adventures to entertain others.

    15. Their innate self-confidence may make them argumentative or blunt, but their intention is to learn, not to offend.

    16. They are high-spirited and enthusiastic, often flirtatious, and they tend to enjoy social life immensely.

    17. Scorpio/Sagittarians enjoy competition and challenge. They aren’t satisfied with moving along at half speed or lowering their abilities to let those with lesser skills beat them.

    18. They tend to be lucky and may enjoy gambling.

    19. Their philosophical side makes them enjoy drama and debate, as well as most other mentally challenging pursuits.

    20. Scorpio/Sagittarians are flirtatious, playful, caring and possessive.

    21. They refuse to allow boredom to turn them away from projects, and they are committed to accomplishing what they set out to do.

    22. Their great love of knowledge and exploration makes them one of the most learned characters of the zodiac.

Mutable fire and fixed water in most cases dampens the fire of Sagittarius and causes your exuberance of Sagittarius “hail fellow well met,” “foot in mouth disease” so well known to Sag, “easy come easy go.” Under these circumstances, you would hardly recognize this person as a Sag. There is tremendous depth to this cusp with only a minimum of expression. Strangely enough you need a bridge of communication. Some of you may feel that the silent majority must agree with you but prefer not to talk about it as you do. You need some air to express your fire. In this case, the fixed water is a little disturbed by the Sag desire for open spaces with people. Scorpio will allow freedom if it isn’t too unstructured. I suspect that most of you just dream about what you could do if you just had the courage of your convictions. Which is true. If your Sag is strong enough to break through the fixity of Scorpio you could find yourself on an unbeatable team. More planets in Sag than Scorpio could even out this balance to advantage. Part of the problem is getting just the proper amount of stimulation and encouragement from others. Creative gifts, divine humor and sincere faith are possibilities. If you are able to free the Sag need to express itself without pressure from Scorpio to be defensive about what is known but not understood by others. It all depends on how well you are able to deal with those less competent than you. Once you learn to be patient with those much less competent without being judgmental and are able to learn from the least competent, you gain tremendous stature in you environment. Sainthood is a possibility.
